What Makes Peer Support Different

Peer support means talking to someone who's actually lived the job — not a therapist reading from a textbook, but a trained peer who's been in the truck, the divvy van, the ambulance. It's not clinical treatment. It's someone who's carried the same weight, helping you carry yours.

You're talking to someone who's been there.

They know what the job does to you because they've experienced it themselves. They're not reading from a manual. They're drawing on real experience.

You get continuity, not rotation.

You talk to the same peer every time. They know your story. You don't have to re-explain. That consistency builds trust faster.

It's practical, not just processing.

Peer support gives you frameworks and tools you can actually use. Not just "how do you feel about that?" but "here's what other first responders have tried."

It's confidential by design.

You're talking to a peer, not someone reporting back to your employer. The conversation stays between you two.

It bridges to clinical care when you need it.

Peer support isn't a replacement for therapy. It's a bridge. We help you decide if therapy makes sense and what to look for.

Every peer is trained, not just experienced.

Lived experience is the starting point, not the whole qualification. Every Code One peer also completes mental health training and peer support training, with specific experience supporting emergency service, first responder, and frontline communities.

Peer Support, On Your Terms

01

Choose your tier

Pick the level of support that fits where you're at — from self-directed access to regular scheduled calls.

02

Your peer reaches out

You're matched with someone who understands your job, and they email you first to introduce themselves — you're never left sending the opening message.

03

Book your first call

They'll send you a link to book a time that suits you, or you can simply keep it going by email if that's what your tier includes. From there, it's ongoing support on your schedule.

Rick Moore

Career Firefighter Former Infantry Soldier Trauma & Grief Peer Support

Rick Moore is a career firefighter with over 10 years on the job. He's a former infantry soldier, and has worked as a mental health peer support practitioner for emergency services since 2014 — in grief and loss, relationship, and trauma settings. He's conducted 100+ critical incident debriefs across multiple agencies and countries.

He's not a therapist. He's a peer who understands the hard parts of the job from the inside.

He built Code One because he saw peer support work. He saw first responders heal when someone who actually understood listened.

Real People. Real Capacity.

We're not a corporation. Response times are tiered because we want to be honest about what we can actually deliver.

At AU$29/month, we can't guarantee a same-hour response — but we promise a quality response within 72 hours, often sooner. If you need faster support, Peer Connect and Peer Plus get you there.

This model keeps us sustainable so we can actually help you long-term, not burn out in 6 months.

Before You Sign Up

Is this therapy?

No. Code One Peer Support is peer-led — provided by people with lived experience plus mental health and peer support training, not licensed psychologists or clinical therapists. It's a bridge to clinical care when you need it, not a replacement for it.

Am I talking to a real person, or a bot?

A real person, always. When you sign up, you're matched with an actual peer — right now, that's founder Rick — who reads and writes every reply themselves. No AI, no chatbot, no auto-generated responses, and no rotating roster of different people. Same person, every time.

Will my employer, union, or department find out I'm using this?

No. Code One is completely independent of your employer, your union, and any government service. Conversations with your peer are confidential, with limited exceptions (mainly if there's a serious risk of harm) explained in our Terms of Service.

What if I'm in crisis right now?

Code One isn't a crisis or emergency service, and our response times aren't built for that. If you're in crisis or at risk of harm, call 000 (Australia), your local emergency number, Lifeline on 13 11 14, or visit findahelpline.com right now.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes — no lock-in contract. Cancel a monthly membership anytime and you'll keep access until the end of your current billing period. Annual memberships can be cancelled anytime too, with a pro-rata refund if it's within 14 days of purchase. Full details are in our Terms of Service.

Do you support people outside Australia?

Yes — people have reached out to Code One from 24 countries so far, and membership is billed in Australian Dollars (AUD) regardless of where you're based.

What's the difference between the tiers?

Peer Chat is email-only, for entry-level and self-directed support. Peer Connect adds a monthly Zoom call with the same peer every time. Peer Plus adds a second monthly call, priority booking, and faster response times. Full comparison is in the membership section above.

Who are the peers?

Every Code One peer has lived experience in emergency services or frontline work, plus mental health training and peer support training specifically for first responders. Right now that's principally founder Rick Moore, with more peers being added as the community grows.

Is there a minimum age?

Yes — Code One Peer Support membership is for people aged 18 and over.

You Don't Have To Do This Alone.
